GREAT FALLS SKI CLUB

History

The Great Falls Ski Club was established in 1938, almost sixty years ago. The founders were the original owners of Kings Hill (now called Showdown) and even had a part in the making of the ski hill. Along the way they sold their interest in the hill and now receive yearly dividend checks in April from Showdown for their interest.

Our club is "tax exempt" and has anywhere from 150 to 250 members per year. The Ski Swap in the Fall is our major source of revenue. Other sources are Membership and the Snowball (our annual dance). Depending on how well the Club does at these annual events, donations are given to Great Falls Ski patrol, Eagle Mount, Central Montana Racing Foundation and on occasion, Big Brothers & Sisters. Expenditures for the Club consist of the monthly newsletter (the Panhandler), insurance, monthly meetings, cost to run annual events and other miscellaneous items.

Our Club puts on two ski trips per year; an out-of-state and an in state. These events pay for themselves. A trip coordinator puts together the entire trip. Their costs are split between all members going on the trip.

We have an Awards Banquet at the end of each season (normally in April). Awards are given for events participated in at Fun Days, and any other significant event that may have occurred during the year (many very funny).

The Club is here to promote skiing in Central Montana.
