Trip update letter: 8-13-01

HOT  - Passport information must match the name you gave for your tickets exactly, many people have already filled out their trip application form but the name on the form does not match their passport (usually the middle name). I will be requesting a copy of the first page of each passport for verification. This must be done in order to keep YOU from paying a $200.00 ticket change fee or not being allowed to board the plane, as tickets must match passports. Contact me ASAP if you think there might be a problem.

Greetings fellow travelers:

About 31 people made it to our first trip meeting held on 8-8-01. For the benefit of those who were not able to attend I will recap what was said, as there are several important issues that need to be dealt with right away.

Extensions:

Individual extensions will be assessed a $50.00 per person ticketing fee and you must depart from Milan, Italy. For those who plan on this please give me you planned itinerary ASAP so I can get your return air reservations taken care of. It must also be noted that once you leave the group you are on your own.

Group extensions, the 31 people that attended unanimously voted for a Rome extension over Florence Italy. This extension is three extra days 9 through 12 March. We will leave Briancon, France by coach to Milan, Melpenza Airport where those who are not extending will be dropped off for their return air trip to USA. Those who are extending will be taken to the train station for a first or second-class train ride to Rome. Once in Rome we will be transferred to Hotel Gioberti (this is subject change based on availability at time of booking), which is very close to all many interesting sites. We are planning a two to three hour city tour with English speaking guide. Hen you will be on your own for touring. Most everything is in walking distance and the Metro stations are close by. On the 12th we will depart Rome for the USA by air. There is not a $50.00 pp charge if you extend with the group. You can extend past the extension but you will be assessed the $50.00 fee.

Trip includes: all transportation, transfers, value added taxes, breakfast each day, four star hotel accommodations, city tour. This trip will cost $329.00 per person based on 40 people participating. This price may increase if we do not get 40 people but will still go with 20. The on hitch is I need to get the extension paid for right now if you would like to attend.

Trip Insurance:

The $24.00 trip insurance that some have opted and paid for does not exist. The quote given to me early on was from an out dated brochure. The updated brochure had coverage costing almost a $100 pp. I went to AAA and was able to obtain a plan from them that each of you can sign up for if you choose to get insurance. With AAA’s plan you can pay be credit card or check. For those who had paid me $24.00 pp for insurance I will automatically send you the AAA brochure for you to take care of on your own. Additionally, I can refund your $24.00 or just apply it to your trip balance. Those that attended the August meeting were given a AAA brochure. Let me know. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Payment Schedule: (Does not include extension)

Half of the remaining balance will be due 11-1-01; Balance of trip cost is due no later than 1-10-02 without exception as I’m obligated by contract for the total amount. Those who would like to payoff their balance may do so at anytime. Please contact me for amount.

Misc.

We currently have 84 people planning on joining us, 2 will drive from England, 6 flying from other than Great Falls and 76 departing from Great Falls.

We will be staying at the Parc Hotel in Briancon, France, as they are the only hotel large enough to accommodate a group of our size. The Parc is centrally located in town making it a great starting of point for whatever you decide to do (skiing or touring).

Next Trip Meeting:

It was suggested to hold the next meeting in conjunction our regularly scheduled club meetings. Friday, October 19th 7:00 PM Moose Lodge, Black Eagle, MT is the planned next meeting that will take place following the ski club meeting.

Contact: If you haven’t done so already and you have Internet access please send me an e-mail so I can add you to our email list. This makes contacting group members very easy and less expense than postage. For those that I already on the e-mail list, you will receive this letter by e-mail along with a copy by snail-mail.

For any questions please feel free to contact me at anytime:

It won’t be long until the snow starts flying

Posted 7-31-01. Extension information due to come out next week. August 8th, Mountain west Bank Building Basement conference room 7:00 PM trip meeting. Topics: side trips and extensions. I will also be talking about the trip insurance issue. The insurance that was quoted was quoted using last years rates and is no longer valid. I will be obtaining information from AAA locally to pass out at the meeting along with providing it through e-mail to all participants.

Posted 5-25-01. Once I receive three deposits the trip will be full. I apologize to anyone who missed out and would gladly put you on the standby list. E-mail me @ meanmarv@sofast.net

Posted 5-21-01. Trip just about full with one or two spots left. I will be keeping a standby list fro those who may be interested in going but did not get their deposits in before the trip filled up. It is inevitable that some will drop out for one reason or another, which would leave a last minute opening at a potential bargain price. So if you are interested please e-mail me Marv Jordan.

Posted 5-15-01. 90 people signed up and deposits for 60. There are only 10 more spaces left, so if you have been sitting on the fence it is time to get off or you will miss out.

Posted 5-12-01: Lodging Parc Hotel Briancon. I currently have deposits for 57 people. Still working on side-trips.includes breakfast, and dinner (half board) along with free transportation up and down the valley. If you are interested please contact Marv Jordan @ 406-452-9301

v      For those that are planning to ski you will receive a voucher that is good for lunch on the ski hill. All others are on their own for lunch with all being provided breakfast and dinner at our hotel. Meals not taken at the hotel will not be reimbursed.

v      There is a ski shuttle that travels the whole valley and is free for those that have resort card (lift ticket). Hotel will have schedule.

v      Each person is allowed two checked pieces of luggage and two carry-ones that must fit under your seat or in the overhead bin. For those who plan on carrying a boot bag and skis these items together only count as one item.

v      Each person must have a valid passport (make sure if you have an older one it is not expired). It is also advisable to make a copy of the picture page of your passport as this will speed up replacement in the event of passport loss. If you are a member of AAA they will take passport photos free of charge. They will also give you free maps of Europe.

v      You should obtain an International Drivers License if you think you might rent a car while in France. AAA sells them for under $20.00.

v      You will be able to collect frequent flyers miles.

v     I need to know if you are interested in any side trips or extending. For those extending you must ultimately depart from Milan, Italy.

The Club is here to promote skiing in Central Montana.
